This is a link to a short clip about a barbershop in Derry is offering men the chance to open up about their mental health. The clip is just over a minute long.
It is hoped that special sessions run by the shop will help men share their problems and talk about their emotions.
What do you think about this innovation?
I think this is a great idea. People might make small talk in barbers but to actually be able to go in and open up about any worries or problems a man might have without worrying about the stigma attached is great and in turn could hopefully save lives.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. I self style these days and fortunately don't suffer from any issues of this nature, but I too think this is a wonderful initiative. Thanks for your comments as always.
ReplyDeleteThere is an initiative called the man club which is very popular in Leeds. It's where men from all walks of life meet up once a week and they all go a walk or stay indoors and chat. It's not formal and it's growing massively in numbers. I remember my dad in law saying " it's alright for woman as it's normal to meet up for a tea and cake and speak about your worries but men wouldn't just do this and it's not ok for a man to admit he's not coping or is lonely". Such a sad thing knowing people feel this way.
