I came across this article which is likely to be a very interesting watch on a number of levels.
The award-winning filmmaker's latest project will see him spend time in two specialist psychiatric units which treat mothers experiencing serious mental illness whilst allowing them to live alongside their babies.
I have long been an admirer of Theroux's work and this should be no exception, in fact, it could be ground-breaking in many respects.
This should be interesting. It’s still quite a taboo subject and looking forward to it being aired in May .
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be watching this in May. It's does sound interesting and will no doubt be an emotiinal journey for everyone involved. I like the fact a man is covering it and he seems to have a lot of empathy for the subject. I look forward to this.
ReplyDeleteI must agree with both of you. I think the male angle will arguably bring something different to the narrative too. Thanks for your comments.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love Louis Theroux's wit. Will definitely watch this. I certainly do hope people will watch it with open minds and emotions to best get a better insight to what many mother's out there suffer from but are too embarrassed to admit it until it gets too much and they can't contain it anymore.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments. The subject matter caught my eye and all previous comments are very pertinent.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who suffered an episode of post-natal psychosis I'm extremely glad that it is coming back into the limelight. It wasn't a widely known thing until EastEnders covered it with their character "Stacy Branning," it showed the let down of spaces available to mothers to live alongside their babies. I hope it will show a turn in the NHS in regards to this. Its definitely one ill will be watching.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for sharing such a personal insight into this subject Lauren. It will be worth revisiting once the show has been broadcast. It might be something you’ll discuss in some of your Nursing based subjects I imagine. All the best, Mark
