Hello all, we are now officially back in session, as it were!
As many of you are parents, this article could be of interest to you, as the main focus is that Children in the UK exceed the maximum recommended sugar intake for an 18-year-old by the time they are 10, according to experts.
The graphic within the article is an interesting one, and serves as a timely (and photographic) reminder of the perils of sugar.
Simbi's presentation on the oral health of children focused on this aspect, and the comments at the end of the BBC article are worth scanning too.
Like salt, a bit of sugar isn't a problem, but moderation is the key, so say the experts!
Your thoughts on this article and subject matter can be noted in our comments section below as always.
Cheers, Mark

I must admit when Bella was born I was ocd with sugar content, could tell you how many grams were in what, with Samuel I'm more relaxed, which isn't a good thing, I still only go with green or orange labels on products but adding everything up probably takes them over the 19g per day. This will make me question their sugar intake now 🙈lol. I liked the Carter family's experiment too.
ReplyDeleteBut at the very least you are aware of the sugar content. In the future we will be watching a presentation on child obesity and critiquing it, and the presenter raises some salient points on the issue of sugar, using some clever visuals to hammer home the point about sugar intake, specifically for children. Thanks as always for your comments. Mark
ReplyDeleteVery interesting subject. I brought in a picture with sugar content in different drinks we deem " healthy" and the amount is shocking. People need to be informed early on supposedly when pregnant, rather than when weaning babies, trying to lose weight or struggling with an illness. At times it's habit too. I add sugar to my healthy tea( lemon & ginger or green tea) which in itself defeats the purpose. It is a factor in the country or even world's growing health worries..
