Presentation Feedback, Round 1!

Well done to all eight presenters this afternoon who were successful with their presentations.

I enjoyed the variety of subjects and well structured deliveries today: HIV, Melanoma, ALS, PTSD, Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Alcoholism.

I asked all presenters to self reflect on their performance, (positive and areas for improvement) and for them to provide feedback on one other learner. This worked very well and then I provided detailed feedback too.

It was clear that the presenters found the assessment session of great benefit and they were even heard to say they enjoyed the experience. Who knew?

What helped the session to run smoothly and efficiently, was that everybody was prepared. What was impressive for me, was the depth of research, the q and a session, enthusiasm and most crucially, how well structured the talks were. A great start to this round of assessments.

Those students who presented today, why don't you pop a few words down in the comments box below? It would be nice to hear your thoughts now you've had time to reflect on your performance. You know you want to...

Well done and I look forward to next Thursday. If you are delivering on 6th December and haven't e mailed me your talk yet, please do so by Tuesday latest please.

Cheers,

Mark

  1. I was so nervous but enjoyed doing it because it brought awareness on WPW Syndrome and that's something I really wanted to do. I loved doing research on it as I have found some stuff out that is helping my brother. I also loved the other talks because I learned a lot from them too. To anyone else that still has to do its not as bad as you think. its over and done with so quickly. I thought I would struggle to get to 5 minutes and I went over lol.

  2. I thought it was really enjoyable. I was also shocked at how fast it went. I really enjoyed everyone's presentations, I was so shocked to learn how much alcohol misuse cost the nhs! I learnt some very interesting facts from everyone. I was so nervous but it wasn't as scary as i thought it would be. Well done everyone.

  3. Thanks Gillian and Myra. The trick with this assessment is preparation, which comes in many different guises. Research, delivery, and demonstrate knowledge. You should look for the positives, not how bad it might be! Eight solid presentations and some very good engagement across the board. Looking at the topics too, it really shows the depth of interest within the class and that has to be a good thing. One last thing for everybody to note, is that effective oral presentation skills can be your best pal for life, as you will all be utilising many aspects of effective communication in your chosen career paths. This one is verbal. The next skill we will be looking at in the Ne'er will be writing. I was very pleased with the standards of the talks today and thank you both for taking the time to share your reflections tonight, it will be of great benefit to your peers who are presenting on the next two Thursdays. Thanks, Mark

  5. Thanks Kelly. It is always good to hear the comments from other members of the class. All you need to do is be calm, be prepared and deliver the best talk you can. I have enjoyed listening to (and reading) the feedback from attendees yesterday, really positive. All the best, Mark
