Firework packaging should show graphic injuries, doctors say

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-46071940

Above is a link concerning the subject of fireworks, from the perspective of surgeons.

Plastic surgeons say the number of life-changing injuries is rising every year despite numerous safety campaigns.

They believe shocking images, like the one they have mocked up using a man's severely damaged hand, might deter buyers.

Half of those seen in hospital last year were aged 18 or under, and 80% were male.

If you are attending a display or having one of your own, please be safe.

I look forward to your comments below.

All the best,

Mark

  1. Personally I think they should be taken off sale to the public and be used in controlled displays only, I understand this could still happen in a controlled display but surely the number of accidents would be reduced.

  2. Hi Kelly. There were a great deal of accidents reported in Edinburgh over the weekend and particularly on Monday. I saw a lot of different local articles which appeared on various feeds on my Facebook page. Another theme I saw was the increase in reported trouble at fireworks displays too and dogs who had been injured and sadly killed due to firework misuse. A societal issue for sure. Thanks for your comments. Mark
