A tribute to Nurses (TED)

This is well worth a look. As we know, Nurses rock, right?

Carolyn Jones spent five years interviewing, photographing and filming nurses across America, traveling to places dealing with some of the nation's biggest public health issues. She shares personal stories of unwavering dedication in this celebration of the everyday heroes who work at the front lines of health care.

A different style of delivery to those of Pausch and Pieterson, but very powerful in a calming way.

I look forward to your comments on this talk in terms of content, delivery and how she contextualises the information. Note also the carefully crafted structure, in particular the start and the end where she shares some very personal commentary.

Wonderful.

  1. Really good video. Made me think about the selfless commitment nurses make to bring positivity to those in need, perhaps at times when nurses may be the ones who need a little positivity in their own lives, after all everyone is fighting their own battles.

  2. Yes, this is a very shrewd critique and most definitely picks up on the themes you have noted. Not unlike the 'Nurse's Letter' from a few months back. The skills, determination and commitment you refer to are without question of huge import in the paths you have all chosen (or perhaps it has chosen you!) I look forward to some more comments as it really is a very good presentation to observe on many levels. Thank you for your comments as always. Mark

  3. Very powerful yet calming indeed. Carolyn's presentation flows with one touching element to another. Her poise suits the subject and content. She blends life experience being a patient, almost at the brink of emotional breakdown, as one on the outside documenting others experiences as nurses and patients and finally as a caregiver to her mum. She has walked the walk and can certainly talk the talk. She brings in a very interesting point to conclude about technology and how it can sometimes "remove emotional intimacy" between nurses and patients. I believe this has it's pros and cons. Lovely presentation.

  4. I like her delivery too, very insightful and uses a lot of clever techniques to get some really important points across clearly. The key to her success is in the fluidity and sensible links she makes for the audience. Definitely a delivery that everybody in the class could enjoy.
