APPLE has come under fire from feminists who say iPhones are now too big for women to hold.
Earlier this week, Apple revealed its largest-screen iPhones yet, and discontinued its famously small iPhone SE model too.
So what do you think? Thank you to James who thought this topic might yield some healthy debate.
Have a great weekend, whatever you are up to.

My wife says this is a load of crap (not the word she used lol). I must say I agree with her if they feel it's too big then just don't buy it.
ReplyDeleteOnly you James could get us all talking about this.. my opinion is I disagree it's because woman's bards are small and dainty. Most phones are now a lot bigger than what they started out. Myself I went for the larger version of my phone but feel it is too big but not for my hands I think this story is Ridiculous to say it's because woman's hands are small some men have small hands as well. Why is it always a woman's fault when something gets changed like phone screens being too big have to change these because woman have small hands can't hold them see if they want a smaller screen buy another phone simple
ReplyDeleteI have many so many issues with this type of News. I'm going to kick off my contributions and try to make them as brief as possible, just in case there are any snipers out there sitting in wait, tactically reloading.
ReplyDelete1. At the time the article was published the phone had only been on sale for less than 6 hours here in the UK and we are to believe there are campaigns already in place due to a phone's size.
2. Then we have Caroline Criado Perez, claim she got repetitive strain injury from using an iPhone 6 and it immediately disappeared as soon as she switched to an iPhone SE. Now that could have happened with any brand of phone, yet it is firmly being directed to Apple.
3. Next, we have the claim "women do buy more iPhones than men, it just baffles me". It baffles me too, because after a quick search online I found a study to suggest the previous statement to be a complete fabrication. According to FLUENT, industry leader in people-based digital marketing and customer acquisition "Men are slightly more likely to be iOS users than women".
4. A little later in the article, the issue of the gender pay gap is piggybacked in from Sophie Walker, the leader of the Women’s Equality Party. This seems to be thrown in to whip up a frenzy of support. No mention of male to female employee ratios, departments or jobs. There is no doubt there are going to be differences in pay depending on your job.
5. How about the credibility of the author, I've clearly demonstrated her lack of fact-checking ability, should this type of journalism even be published?
6. I'll conclude with the part of the article I found the most ironic, "They argue that as the average female hand is an inch shorter in width compared to the average male’s, women need the option to buy smaller devices". Now I would ask if you could hold your phone as you normally would, remember the width of your hand is from thumb to little finger.
Is being an inch shorter even relevant to how you hold your phone?
Oh my!! What an underwhelming read. Feminism actually stretches to smartphone use and all that jazz!!! I've got to agree with James here, its an absolutely ridiculous claim. What happened to real issues that women are facing around the world and need a feminist voice to stand for them? They(feminists clan)are now losing the plot. It seems as if its an "attack" on a big male dominated industry that is very successful despite not much female blood flowing through its veins. Its just ridiculous, im lost for words. At least the feminist has hands to even talk about, what about those with disabilities that still want to move with technology and the times, obviously some must find holding the "monster of a phone" quite difficult but we don't hear them complaining or campaigning!!! There are a range of smartphones by other manufactures' that she and her gang can try out if the new iPhone isn't suitable. MIC DROP!!!
ReplyDeleteSome great points made on this article. Whatever we think about what the text (arguably) wants us to reflect upon, it has yielded some most interesting and measured commentary. Keep it coming!
