Permanent Room and Report Feedback

Hi all,

Just a reminder that we are back in business permanently in room 2012 as of next Thursday, 7th February.

Our temporary accommodation today worked well for us though for sure.

Well done to all of the members of the class who have now passed the HPP / Communication report, as the standard of writing has been good. I guess it is only when you look at the draft and then the final submission that you really see where your improvements are.

I shall see you next Thursday and in the meantime, have a great weekend when it comes.

Over 4000 views of the blog by January!

I am stunned, this is brilliant. In fact, at time of typing, the number is 4,183!

See you all on Thursday where I will give back the re-introduction pieces of writing which made for really enjoyable reading.

I will also see where everybody is with their reports.

Well done to the members of the class who have now passed that assessment and they are coming in thick and fast which is great!

All the best,

Mark

Gum disease bug linked to Alzheimer’s

https://www.scotsman.com/news/gum-disease-bug-linked-to-alzheimer-s-in-breakthrough-1-4861467

Above is a signpost to a very interesting piece of research where a link has been proven between gum disease and Alzheimer's disease.

There have been previous suggestions that gum disease may play a role in Alzheimer’s, but the latest study by a US-led international team of scientists appears to put the link beyond question.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts as always.

Have a great weekend everybody and I will see you all on Thursday at 13.50 in 2004.

All the best,

Mark

Call for high blood pressure task force in Scotland

Hello all,

I was just reading this article when our wonderful Occupational Health Adviser at the College sent through the very same news link by e mail to all staff.

This should be of particular interest as you have been working on the 'effects of exertion on pulse rate and blood pressure' recently in the Human Physiological Processes Unit for Kevin which has been piggy-backed into an assessment for my Communication Unit.

The article is worth reading and any comments you have are welcomed as always in the comments section below.

All the best,

Mark

"I introduced fun to the lives of A&E staff. The laughter was infectious"

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/jan/17/introduced-fun-a-and-e-staff

Hello all.

This is an interesting article I came across today when I was scanning the Nursing section in The Guardian.

This concerns the concept of wellness, a most important aspect of our lives.

The article recognises the importance of Communication skills, teamworking, connecting with people, allowing creativity and much more.

I look forward to your thoughts.

All the best,

Mark

Recap of 17/1/19 class and other bits and bobs

Hello all,

Another very good class today and thank you to all of you who took the time to write up your 're-introduction' piece for me. I will read these by the next time we meet, which will be in two weeks (31/1/19).

We will be in room 2004 for the second semester, but I will be on the lookout for a slightly larger room if possible. The advantage of that new room is that we have PCs which is helpful.

Today I went over research and reports, the importance of formal language, referencing and the HPP / Communication integrated brief.

I have set the submission date as no later than 1st February, and please look at the higher end word count (1000 words max. please!)

I will reply to you as soon as I can when they come in, and we will have a session on Thursday 31st where you can tidy your report up prior to submission if you need that time.

All the best and enjoy next week. Everybody in the class is completely up to date and that is a great thing, make no mistake!
